The Mural Project Continued: Onward and Upward!
The Art of Imagination’s comic book class students joined artists Mike Giron, Lisa Kalantjakos, and Tim Mayer on a chilly May morning to put our mural on the back of the Tip Top Thrift Shop in the Benson area. There will be a Diversability Celebration in the Walgreens’ parking lot next door to officially unveil the finished mural on Friday, June 6, 6-8pm featuring artwork by area artists, food, music, and camaraderie.
Trashion Show!
On Sunday, April 27, at the Annual Earth Day celebration at the Bellevue Lied Center, the Art of Imagination competed in the Trashion Show. The competition involved creating a costume made entirely from recyclable materials. Selina McCormick and Tanya Pietron (pictured above) designed and built the AOI entry. Materials in the dress included paper cupcake liners, contact paper, lace, ribbon, and plastic bottle caps. The accessories were constructed from cardboard paper towel rolls adorned with metal beads. The final costume was modeled by AOI student Cassie.

Mural Project 2014: Diversability
This summer, in partnership with WhyArts, the Art of Imagination will unveil a new mural on the back side of the Tip Top thrift shop in the Benson area. The Art of Imagination, along with Monroe Meyer, Quality Living and Vodec, have been working with local professional artists to create images and ideas for the mural. Omaha mural artist Mike Giron is heading up the project. Local artist Natalie Linstrom and long-time instructor of The Art of Imagination’s The Amazing Invincible Super Comic Book Project! Tim Mayer have been working with students at the Ollie Webb Center on the mural images. Included in this post are photos of our artists in action.
